Aberdeen City Council’s Corporate Health and Safety Policy sets out a commitment to provide and maintain a healthy and safe working environment for staff at all levels.

Head Teachers are required to:

  • produce a School Health and Safety Policy outlining H&S duties and responsibilities
  • make sure risk assessment procedures are in place and reviewed regularly
  • comply with all Council H&S policies and guidance
  • make H&S training available, especially for new staff
  • encourage a positive attitude towards H&S.

Employees are legally obliged to:

  • co-operate with managers in producing a safe workplace
  • seek appropriate training
  • use equipment given to protect at work
  • point out H&S concerns
  • co-operate with council’s H&S procedures e.g. risk assessment process and workplace inspections
  • be responsible and set a good example
  • look after self and others

School Management must consult with School EIS H&S Reps and ensure that the H&S Reps are involved in H&S matters. Sufficient time and resources to do this must be provided.
